Summary from the ISPI Conference part #1

What always strikes me from meeting people in a context of generosity and curiosity is how easy it is to take in and reflect new ideas. And how easy it is to get into a feeling of yiee with a positive belief in the future and change. The conference I attended the past days was exactly like that, the ISPI EMEA significant culture of trust and sharing.

ISPI

ISPI (International Society for Performance Improvement) is a network that started in the USA in 1962.  The network is the leading international association dedicated to improving productivity and performance in the workplace. To put it short the ISPI approach is about creating value for the work, worker, workplace and the world. A systems and a systematic approach focusing on results and adding value to the organization in partnership with the client.

Highlights from the conference

There were so many great moments and food for thoughts, as well as all inspiring people and new relationship built. It is hard to make a fair summary but here are some of the highlights of the conference. The conference was at Hotel Post (with great service) had numbers of excellent workshops, a key note speaker, an executive panel and an “Open assist”.  Open assist is where an organization, this time Culture Administration of Gothenburg, share their challenges to all attendees at the conference. Teams were formed and they presented their analysis and recommendation to the organization management team and the end of the conference. It is a fantastic way of getting knowledge and share to all participants. It is also a great input to the organization to help them designing the change needed from experts in the field. The teams did a stunning job with top class presentations.

Keynote speaker Lisa Lindström, CEO at Doberman Group

Lisa came in from the stormy wither in Gothenburg and blew peoples mind. After she left I heard people quoting her several times. I found her authentic in a way you normally don’t see people that are so hyped and in her position. Doberman is a design firm working with digital transformation and have offices in Stockholm, New York City and Berlin with a lot of success cases. What is behind all this? Lisa and a bunch of colleagues started with building the organization focusing on PEOPLE. And they mean this for real with lots of passion. They have stated some valuable approaches. Valuable for all stakeholders:

  • The experts are the people who are working on issues on a daily basis, listen to them and support their performance by providing them a safe environment.
  • Become a master of creating partnership. Master collaboration
  • Lead by exploration. Leadership is a muscle.
  • Balance data with intuition and measure movement
  • Stay curious. For real.
  • Put trust on the to do list!

Inclusiveness is also something that drives Lisa and her colleagues’ activities and behaviors. For example, the recruiting and onboarding process is well thought through and built on people needs for performing.  By all these examples the clients get innovative services with high momentum on their wanted strategic results. For example, one organization started a large project and went from a start to end process that usually takes 7 years to be done in 5 months! Groundbreaking. All this by putting time in the beginning of the process by involving the right people.  While the storm outside started to accelerate, Lisa Lindström left for Stockholm and I felt almost run over by her very basic down to earth personality with her strong will for fast high-quality results in the digital world.
